To Know Your Place.
Collage 1
To Know Your Place is a project discussing ideas of the relationship between people and space. Throughout our lives we, often unintentionally, form associations and bonds with certain locations that are important to us. This project explores how we interact with different places, and how multiple locations can influence us. There exist a plethora of different locations which we relate to and can call home, the feeling transcends border and physical distance. Working alongside different individuals, this project delves into the different places that they relate to and exist in across their lives. The images ‘Situate’ their subjects in the places of importance to them and encourage the viewer to consider the relational influences different location have had on them and their identity. The physical form explored by the medium of this project also discusses how art can be situated and how contrasting ideas can be merged not only theoretically but also through the physical form of the art itself.
This project encourages the viewer to consider their relationship with place, and to ask themselves the question of what it truly means “To Know Your Place”?
